Do you have a goal you’ve really been trying to accomplish? Maybe you’ve tried and failed. And, you know what? That’s perfectly okay! It can be easy to get sidetracked, fall behind or feel like the goal you’re trying to attain is just so far away. Don’t worry! There are ways to push yourself towards your goals and get them accomplished!
It’s a new year! Write down those goals and use these tips to help you achieve those goals this year:
1. Visualize Reaching the goal
Often times, certain goals can feel so far away, we can’t even see ourselves achieving them. This is a limiting belief. The best way to challenge this limiting belief is to visualize reaching the goal you’re aiming for.
It may sound a bit hokey but when done correctly, it will help you find that last bit of motivation you need to keep pushing forward.
Close your eyes and visualize a ‘you’ where you have already accomplished the goal you’re aiming for. Then, ask yourself these questions:
- What does it feel like there?
- How has it made your life better?
- What has achieving this goal done for you?
- What doors has it opened up?
- Has it removed any stressors from your life?
- Was it worth anything you had to do to get there?
2. Keep Your Eye on Your “Why”
The biggest reason to push through towards a goal is our “why.” Why do you want to achieve this particular goal? Never lose sight of why you signed on to achieve this goal in the first place.
Your “why” is going to be your most powerful source of motivation and thus, your reason to keep pushing!
3. Hold Yourself Accountable For Each Step
Most goals, especially the larger ones, are going to require multiple steps. Make sure that you have a clear action plan that is achievable. Make sure you are holding yourself accountable for completing each of these steps. There is NO ROOM FOR EXCUSES.
Make a list of steps, a date in which you want to complete each step and get it done. Make sure that you are taking responsibility for slacking and also rewarding yourself for each stepping stone.
4. Surround Yourself With Like-Minded People
When you are a person who has big dreams and wants to achieve things consistently, you need to surround yourself with people who are in the same mindset. These people will become a great source of motivation for you.
A lot of people out there are happy staying in the same place for most of their lives and that’s perfectly okay. However, if you are a person who wants to keep achieving new things, find others who feel the same way. It’ll help more than you realize.
It’s also helpful to seek out people who are striving for goals that are similar to yours.
5. Push Through the low Points, even when it sucks
We’re all going to have bad days and low points, especially on the path to a new goal. I know, saying it is a hell of a lot simpler than actually doing it. But, that’s exactly what you have to do.
When you feel like quitting – don’t. Keep pushing through, no matter what it takes. You may feel like shit while you’re doing this but just keep going. When you’re done, you will thank yourself.
6. Always Track Your Progress
Tracking your progress towards a goal can be very rewarding in and of itself. Make sure you have a method to track your progress. Spreadsheets work great for many people!
Other ways to track your progress can be pretty simple but very powerful such as writing down how you’re feeling during the process in a journal. You could also mark ‘milestones’ on a calendar.
Find a means to track your progress, (whatever works best for you), and always mark down where you are in terms of meeting the ultimate goal.
7. Stay Excited About Your Goals
Don’t ever let that ‘hungry’ energy slip away when it comes to pushing towards a goal. We all start goals for a reason. We want to achieve these goals. Strive to always keep that same energy you started with!
If you find that you’re losing interest in the goal, try these quick tips:
- Read about the Goal
- Find a Success Story related to your goal
- Again, remember your “why”
- Dwell on that beautiful feeling you felt last time you accomplished a goal
Just Keep Going…
No matter what obstacles you find in your way, make a path through or around them. It isn’t always going to be easy but anything worth it rarely is. You just have to keep going.
Making lists of your “why” helps, as does visualization in combination with the other tips. However, the biggest obstacle in your way is going to be you and your own excuses.
Just keep going. No matter what.
