Even though I’m new to the blogging game, I know that the #1 most important aspect of blogging is PROMOTION. You want people to read what you write but they have to be able to find it first. There are many ways you can pay for promotion, but what if you don’t have the budget to do that when starting out? Many of us don’t. And – why pay for promotion when there are so many ways to do it for free? In this post, I’ll be naming many FREE places you can promote your blog & increase your traffic:
1. http://www.Pinterest.com
Pinterest is the #1 way to drive traffic to your blog, whether you’re a new blogger or a seasoned one. If you don’t already have a Pinterest profile – go and create one immediately. You can make pins via Canva.
Create pins to your own content & pin them on Pinterest. I’ll do a more in depth guide on how to use Pinterest to drive traffic to your blog. It’s one of the best methods.
2. Twitter
Twitter is not only a great way to promote your own blog posts – it’s a fantastic way to connect with other bloggers. I just made my personal Twitter my twitter for my blog too. Just tweet out your blog links and use relevant hashtags. Here are some popular ones for bloggers:
- #Blogger
- #Bloggersunite
- #Bloggerswanted
- #BlogPost
Also, use hashtags that are relevant to the blog post you’re promoting. For instance, if you’re writing about healthy recipes, think of hashtags like #recipes, #healthyrecipes, #healthyeating and so on. It’s a great, FREE promotional tool.
(And don’t forget to follow ME on Twitter – @Kpink88) 🙂
3. Mix
Formally Stumble Upon, Mix is basically a site that shows you content that you’re interested in. You can put the links to your own post there, use relevant tags and collections and your content will show up on other people’s mix account.
It’s really easy to use, and a super quick way to promote.
4. Facebook
There are TONS of groups on Facebook that allow bloggers to not only connect but to also promote their own content. I recently started my Facebook for Business Page. Check out my very new Facebook for Business page here.
You can also share the link to your latest blog post on your own personal Facebook page. It’s an easy, free way to promote and generate more traffic.
5. Tumblr
Tumblr is another free way to promote your blog content. I haven’t really got the hang of it entirely but have noticed that traffic has been driven to my blog via Tumblr. Some people are pros on there. Try it out! You may be surprised at how much traffic you’re able to generate from it.
6. LinkedIn
Linkedin is great for everyone to have, but it can be especially helpful for bloggers, Freelance Writers and other types of creatives. You can network with people in your industry and even promote your own blog posts on your own linkedin page.
You can see my Linkedin Profile here. Add me! I started it recently and have been learning how to get more connections, (especially with brands).
7. Optimize your SEO
Okay, so SEO means “search engine optimization.” It’s how people can find your post organically using a google search. Download the Yoast SEO plugin, (if you have a WordPress Blog) and it will analyze how often you are using your keywords. The more you use your keyword, (what people would search for), the more likely it is that your post will appear in a Google Search.
8. Google +
Speaking of Google, if you don’t have a Google + account in place, make one. It’s a really easy way to promote your latest blog post and also find Google communities to join.
Google + is really easy to use and it makes sharing your blog posts a breeze. Just share the link and your featured image will automatically show up in your post 🙂
9. Gather an Email List
Make sure those who visit your blog have a chance to sign up for your email list. I personally use Mail Chimp. It’s really easy to use and set up. If you have nothing else to send your email at the time – you can always just send them your latest blog post. Don’t be a spam monster though – people don’t like that shit. Only send your email list blog posts that are useful to them.
Additional Places to Share & Promotion Info:
- Send out a Text your Contacts with the link to your post
- Join Blog Lovin
- Guest Post on other Blogs
- Leave your Blog Post in Comments on other Bloggers in your niche (if you have one)
- Share a promotional video for your post on YouTube.
- Share a picture of your post on Instagram and link your blog post to it.
- Make sure EVERY blog post you write has share buttons!
- Form Connections with other bloggers so you can share each others’ links on your own blog.
Final Thoughts:
I won’t lie, I was very skeptical of sharing my blog posts with people who know me personally. It may sound weird but I initially felt a bit cringey about it. I’ve since let go of that fear. If you’re having a similar fear, just remember this quote: “Your opinions will never write me a check.” People are always going to be judgmental. There’s really no way around it. Get over the fear of promotion and use the mediums I mentioned. They will drive a lot of traffic to your blog!
Let me know what you think in the comments section, or if you have another great way to help promote your latest blog post! I wish any blogger or aspiring blogger all the luck in the world 🙂
Also, if you’re new to blogging, drop the link to your blog in the comments & I’ll check it out!
