Essential oils have so many, incredible uses – some of which are surprising. Using a natural alternative over an unnatural one is always preferable. I have taken a lot of time to research all the uses of various essential oils. Peppermint is not only one of my favorite scents – there are a lot of other uses for this versatile essential oil.
Here are some surprising uses for peppermint essential oil:
Can Aid in Reducing Appetite
For anyone who has ever “ate their feelings” – this oil can be helpful. By inhaling peppermint essential oil – or applying it to your temples and/or chest can help reduce your appetite and make you feel full faster. Surprising & helpful 🙂 .
Can Boost Energy & Focus
Some studies have even proven that peppermint essential oil can aid in treating ADHD symptoms. The scent will boost your energy and improve your focus. Sounds like a great scent for the office.
Stress Reducer
Lots of essential oils do this, peppermint essential oil is another. We can all use stress reducers. Diffuse some peppermint essential oils and breath in the calm.
Bug Repellent!
I don’t know about the rest of you, but mosquitoes eat me alive! Dilute some peppermint essential oil with filtered water, mix it together in a spray bottle & BOOM – you have all natural bug repellent! & it really does work :). It sure beats spraying on a ton of ill-smelling bug spray.
Soothes Respiratory Issues & is a Natural Decongestant
For whatever reason, I can’t take over-the-counter decongestants, (they make me feel very strange). So, it was great to realize that breathing in peppermint essential oil does it naturally. It’s also been said to help with respiratory issues.
Can Alleviate a headache
Rub some peppermint essential oil on your temple or directly on your forehead, (the %100 natural stuff, though), and it can help alleviate a headache. I’ve actually done this and was shocked at how helpful it was.
Soothes Sore Muscles
Mix it with some coconut oil and apply directly to sore muscles. It really helps soothe muscle pain.
Can Increase Hair Growth
Add a couple drops of Peppermint essential oil to your shampoo and it will actually help your hair grow longer & stronger.
Can Numb Tooth Pain
Add a drop to a tooth if you’re experiencing tooth pain and it will almost instantly numb the pain until you can get in to see your dentist. It also naturally freshens breath.
Final Thoughts:
Essential Oils overall are Kings & Queens when it comes to remedies. There are literally thousands of uses. Peppermint essential oil is one of my favorites. I love the scent and find that it truly does improve my focus throughout the day.
Since I only just started learning about essential oils around 8 months ago, I’m sure there are way more uses for peppermint essential oil than I mentioned. But hey, I’m still learning. 🙂
Always make sure you purchase the %100 pure, organic essential oils – as you don’t want to use the ones that aren’t topically. Diffuse some essential oils and brighten your day 🙂
