Simple Ways to Go Green

Happy Earth Day! In this time, it’s more important than ever for everyone to contribute to the well being of our planet. Don’t worry – you don’t have to go completely “green extreme” to help out. Here are some simple ways you can go green, for the betterment of our planet 🙂 :

Recycle

It can be a pain in the ass, but it’s worth it. And, hey, it can also be a way to score a few spare bucks. Pick up an extra garbage can for aluminum cans only. Even if you don’t drink much pop or beer – it adds up. Fill up some bags and take them to a local recycling center.

Not sure what else you can recycle? – Check out this Awesome Recycling Chart from SheKnows.com.

Support Eco-Friendly Brands

Buy organic and support locally owned eco-friendly businesses.

Switch to Chemical-Free Cleaning Products or Make your Own

There are tons of recipes out there to make your own cleaning products. If you’re not into that, there are lots of cleaning brands that make chemical free products. Look into it. The small changes are the ones that can make the biggest difference.

Pay Bills Online & Switch to Online Banking

Ditch all unnecessary paper. Do auto-payments or pay online. I use PNC bank and their mobile app is wonderful. No useless papers about all the money I spent on Amazon.

Reusable Water Bottle > Bottled Water

Stop buying bottled water. Use a reusable water bottle instead. There are loads of options out there. Buy a ZeroWater filter and use the water from your tap.

Garden

Even having a small container garden is very rewarding. Have a window herb garden, (there are tons of ideas for these on Pinterest). Gardening is not only a very rewarding hobby – it’s a green one.

Always TURN OFF anything you aren’t using.

I know people who literally have their television on ALL THE TIME. Turn that shit off. When you leave the room – turn off the lights. Leaving the house for the night – turn the heater/AC off. Never keep anything running that you aren’t using.

Re-purpose Stuff

There is a lot of fun DIY to be had here. Have jars? There are a lot of ways to re-purpose them. You can do this with just about anything. Print something you’ll never look at again – use the back side for writing notes or something. Look into all the ways you can re-purpose commonly used items around the home. It can even help save you some cash.
